Youth Advocacy & Education

Even though they can't vote, youth can, and do, advocate for change on tobacco control issues.

Fighting Against Corporate Tobacco (FACT)
FACT is a youth-led statewide campaign that empowers young people to make informed choices about tobacco by learning the facts about how the industry targets them. For more information contact Luke Witkowski, FACT Field Guru at (262)703-4846, or visit www.fightwithfact.com.

Teens Against Tobacco Use (T.A.T.U)
T.A.T.U. is a tobacco education program designed to help teens develop strong leadership skills while influencing younger children to live tobacco-free lifestyles. For more information visit the American Lung Association of Wisconsin.

Operation Storefront
Milwaukee's Operation Storefront is an initiative to curb the amount of tobacco advertising and promotions in retail outlets. The goals of the program are to reduce the amount of tobacco advertising and promotions aimed at youth and to monitor big tobacco's presence in neighborhoods. Youth from all over the city of Milwaukee volunteer to spot code violations and advocate for change. Operation Storefront is a partnership between the City of Milwaukee Health Department, the Milwaukee Community Tobacco Coalition and Strive Media Institute. If you would like more information on the Operation Storefront initiative in Milwaukee, please contact Shaira Hanif at the Milwaukee Health Department at (414) 286-3383.

Tobacco-Free Sports Implementation Guide & Tool Kit
Developed in Milwaukee, the goal of Tobacco-Free Sports is to prevent youth tobacco initiation by linking tobacco-free lifestyles with health and physical fitness. The program consists of teen presenters conducting five sets of tobacco prevention and education sessions, a media advocacy tobacco prevention event, and training for coaches. For a copy of the guide please email tcrcw@tobwis.org.

Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids
The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids general website has great resources on the toll tobacco takes on the country. A Youth Action sections allows youth to react to these facts.
