In a new article published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) outlines concerns related to the sale of nicotine pouches and other synthetic nicotine products. The CDC shares that synthetic nicotine products have the potential to undermine youth tobacco prevention and cessation efforts. Further, the CDC highlights the similarities between the flavors and marketing of synthetic nicotine products to that of e-cigarettes -- tactics that the CDC points out have been successful in attracting young people. CDC concludes by arguing that these products warrant urgent action from policymakers, clinicians, and researchers.
