On Friday, January 4, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services released new data on youth e-cigarette use in the state. The data comes from the 2018 Youth Tobacco Survey, and shows that e-cigarette use by young people has skyrocketed even as the use of conventional cigarettes has fallen to an all-time low. According to the survey, 1 in 5 Wisconsin high school students currently use e-cigarettes, and 1 in 9 middle school students have tried them (4.1% of middle school students are current users).
In response to the new data, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services issued a public health advisory on youth e-cigarette use. The advisory details youth usage trends and health dangers for young people, and also provides recommended actions for parents, educators, health professionals, and community and state leaders.
